Tekken gets First Filipino Character Named Josie Rizal

Who would’ve guessed that we’ll have a Filipino character in Tekken 7?

A staple in local arcades and gaming consoles, Tekken is one of our country’s most popular games. I guess it was only a matter of time before the game’s creators finally makes a character we can call our own. Enter Josie Rizal, Tekken’s first Filipino character.

According to a tweet by Bandai Namco Games’ Katsuhiro Harada, Josie Rizal is a fighter adept at kickboxing and Eskrima. In the YouTube trailer, the character’s moves and combos are showcased, giving us a glimpsed of what she can do.

Granted Josie doesn’t look Filipina (who does nowadays anyway), you’ll see her wearing a Philippine flag inspired costume complete with red ribbons on her head that look like bunny ears. The character also speaks English and cries like, um, a little girl at the end of her video.

No launch date has been set on when Josie will appear in Tekken 7, but I’m sure she’ll be a widely used once she’s out.

Rizal has Chinese blood. Josie looks oriental but more of japs / korean?
and IMO, “does she look pinoy” is a misnomer. it’s hard to distinguish pinoy from non-pinoys when you’re in TH, SG, MY, etc. yung mga indiano nga, singaporean daw ako eh. si iqbal nga ng MILF, di daw pinoy eh pero sa itsura pedeng pinoy naman. lol.
pero yung mga pinoy sa information desks sa mga airports, ang gagaling maka distinguish.
