The USD4 billion partnership strengthens Vivo and Qualcomm’s technical partnership and patent sharing. This could mean we’ll see more Vivo smartphones in the future with innovative features and improved performance in mobile photography, gaming, battery life and more.

One such innovation we could see in the near future is the Under Display fingerprint scanning solution. Unveiled by Vivo during the Mobile World Congress 2017, the technology uses Qualcomm’s fingerprint sensors under the display, potentially paving the way for a biometric security solution without the use of an independent capacitive or optical fingerprint recognition button. The technology uses ultrasounds from the sensor to penetrate OLED displays to recognize a user’s fingerprint.

The collaborations does not end there. Aside from the under display sensor, other technologies the two tech giants are working on include 3D facial identifications, improved fingerprint scanners, and iris scanners.

Another initiative Vivo will be involved in is Qualcomm’s 5G networks and SoC. Qualcomm has been testing 5G modems (through smartphone reference design units) in the past months. Achieving gigabit speeds, the new system is capable of up to 5GBPS speeds once 5G deployments are completed.

Vivo has always been a tough competitor in mobile technology application. With global expansion in works, the company prioritizes working with global partners often found on the forefront of technology.  In October 20, Vivo officially headwayed into Hong Kong. They will soon introduce their top-of-the-line products to Taiwan, Singapore and Russia, as their first foray into the European market, followed by a push into the African market in early 2018.
