Chinese smartphone vendors have seen a rise in market share all over the globe. In the Philippines, one particular vendor managed to topple local rankings fixture Cherry Mobile to lead for the first time.
According to a report from market research firm Canalys, OPPO sits at the top spot in the Philippines with a 20% market share in Q3 of 2018. The brand managed build a slight lead over Cherry Mobile, who currently sits at number two with 19.3%. Vivo is not far behind at third with 12.5%.
“Oppo’s performance was most notable, as it was the only vendor that appeared in the top three in all five of the largest markets,” said Research Analyst Jin Shengtao.
The report cites the Philippines as one of the countries where OPPO performed best. It beat local brand Cherry Mobile and was the main reason that pushed Samsung out of the top 3.

In Southeast Asia, smartphone shipments fell by 3% year on year. Vietnam and Thailand dropped to 17% and 20%, respectively, while the Philippines saw 3.1% decline.
Overall, Samsung is still the top vendor with 5.8 million units shipped, with OPPO at second with 4.8 million units.
