Huawei Mate XS foldable phone now official

Huawei continues to push the boundaries of smartphone innovation with their latest foldable, the Huawei Mate XS. The handset is a follow up to the Mate X, and features a more durable display with an improved hinge.

Because it’s a foldable, the Huawei Mate XS has a chunky body when folded with a 6.6-inch display on one side, and a 6.38-inch on the other. The phone unfolds into a huge 8-inch almost square display with a 2480 x 2200 resolution.

Huawei used a 2-layer structure layer that sandwiches the OLED panel. Designed for durability, it uses two polyamide films secured with an optically clear adhesive.

Under the hood, the Mate XS is powered by a 2.86GHz Kirin 990 processor with a 5G modem, 8GB RAM and 512GB storage. It has a total of four cameras located on its “spine” — a 40MP f/1.8 main, 16MP f//2.2 ultra-wide, 8MP f/2.4 telephoto, and ToF sensor for better edge detection.

For selfies, it uses the same cameras which faces either front/back while folded.

The Mate XS comes with EMUI 10 based on Android 10. Like their new handsets, it has HMS or Huawei Mobile Services, and relies on its own AppGallery for apps.

The Huawei Mate XS will be available globally starting next month with a price of EUR 2,499 (roughly PHP 138,400).
