Google Maps alternative Petal Maps now available for download on Huawei AppGallery

The new Petal Maps is now available for download on the AppGallery for Huawei and Honor smartphones. The maps app is a great alternative to Google Maps.

Petal Maps is currently in beta. The description says it only supports Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 40 and P40 series smartphones running on EMUI 11.0 or higher. But I have tested it on several EMUI 10.1 phones and it seems to be working fine.

The new map app is available in over 140 countries and regions (including the Philippines). It comes with several features a proper mapping system should have, including search functions, real-time traffic conditions, 2D/3D viewing modes, and more.

Moreover, Petal Maps is fully compliant with local laws and regulations where it is available to protect user data and privacy. Data is protected with end-to-end encryption and other privacy protection technologies.

Here are some of the features and functions found on Petal Maps, as stated on the AppGallery.

Map browsing

Zoom in and out, adjust the map position, and even tilt and rotate the viewing angle of the map. You can also switch between viewing the full route or just the current section with air gestures during navigation, choose between 2D/3D viewing modes, and view real-time traffic conditions as you browse.

Map searching

With a huge database of POIs, finding places is easier than ever – simply search for keywords to find places on the map. You can also touch the category icons under the search bar to find recommended places nearby, as well as add places to your favorites.

Navigation

Real-time traffic data helps you choose a faster route and avoid traffic jams. The app quickly re-plans your route and re-estimates the arrival time whenever you stray from the recommended route.

Air gestures

Allows you to switch between viewing the full route and the current section with air gestures for safer operations when driving.
