Want more power? Here are the top-performing Android phones last August

Despite being booted out of the Google Playstore, AnTuTu Benchmark is still one of the most popular benchmarking apps. Many still look to it to gauge the power of their devices.

For the month of August, AnTuTu has collated all the scores and recently released the top ten most powerful Android phones.

To no one’s surprise, all the devices on this list are powered by Qualcomm’s flagship processor, the Snapdragon 888. You won’t find any phone that runs on Samsung and MediaTek chips here. It doesn’t mean those devices are inferior. It’s just that they have lower scores.

Do consider that the scores are not an indicator of a memorable smartphone experience. Other factors make a great phone, such as the software, the build quality, and other features, like the camera performance.

AnTuTu collected the data from August 1 to 31, 2021. The results in the ranking list are average scores instead of the highest scores; and there are more than 1,000 pieces of information on single phone model.

Without further ado, here is AnTuTu’s global top ten best performing flagship phones for August 2021.

I am actually surprised that there are no Samsung flagships on the list. Maybe we’ll see the newly released foldables in the coming months. Also, there are no Snapdragon 888 Plus devices here either, but they’ll likely make the cut this September.

Here are some observations I’d like to share.

The nubia Red Magic 6 Pro has a 20,000+ lead over the ROG Phone 5 despite similar specs, which in all likelihood could be attributed to software optimization.

Meanwhile, the third ranked phone, the realme GT, has a score that is close to the second ranked even though it has less RAM (12GB vs. 16GB). That could mean two things: either the RAM difference is not that significant, or the ROG Phone 5’s software needs more optimization.

Anyhow, the all the phones on the list are powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset, but the top handsets have at least 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and some form of thermal management system.

That’s it for the global top 10 best performing Android flagship smartphones. Does the list surprise you? Or is it what you expected? Let me know.
