Netflix taps Microsoft for ad-supported plans

Netflix’s ad-supported plan is coming to fruition as the streaming giant partners with Microsoft to provide all their advertising needs.

It was reported last April that Netflix was losing subscribers at the start of 2022, which negatively affected its value. One of the ways they thought of for them to combat the loss was with a lower-priced ad-supported plan.

This time around, it looks like it’s going to happen soon as Netflix taps Microsoft as its global advertising technology and sales partner.

In the press release, Netflix COO Greg Peters said “Microsoft has the proven ability to support all our advertising needs as we work together to build a new ad-supported offering. More importantly, Microsoft offered the flexibility to innovate over time on both the technology and sales side, as well as strong privacy protections for our members.”

It remains to be seen how Netflix will go about ads on their stream, but it will likely be similar to what you see on other streaming platforms with the same format.

There is no timetable as of yet on when the ad-supported plan is coming as they are still in the “very early days” of development. But having an additional option of a cheaper plan for those who don’t mind viewing ads in between streams looks to be a move in the right direction.
