Canalys: realme retains top smartphone spot in PH for Q3 2022, vivo at number two

realme retains the top spot in the Philippines smartphone vendor rankings, reports Canalys. vivo, who fell off the top 5 last quarter, makes huge strides to take second place.

In the Philippines, realme is the number one smartphone vendor in Q3 2022 with a 19% share, continuing where they left off from that strong performance in Q2 2022.

Meanwhile, vivo makes significant advancements and re-enters the top 5, taking the second spot with a 17% share, backed by an annual growth of 88%.

OPPO is third with a 16% share, the same as last quarter. Transsion fell to fourth from second in the previous quarter, also with 16% share. And at fifth place, we have Samsung with a 13% share.

So who fell off the top 5 in the Philippines? Xiaomi was the victim, replaced by a surging vivo. Xiaomi’s ascent in Q2 2022 was backed by the popularity of its Redmi 10 series. In Q3 2022, they didn’t have any significant releases, which might have contributed to a slower quarter. However, we are expecting them to bounce back in Q4 2022.

All this happened in the backdrop of worldwide smartphone shipments declining in Q3 2022 by 9% year-on-year to 297.8 million units. In the global market, the performance of the high-end segment was the only highlight said Canalys.

Samsung is still number one worldwide despite an 8% decline. Meanwhile, Apple grew 8% and shipped 53.0 million units in Q3 2022. They are the only vendor to increase year-on-year. Xiaomi is third even after two quarters of double-digit declines. They shipped 40.5 million units in the same period.

Rounding out the top 5 are OPPO and vivo at fourth and fifth despite seeing over 20% declines. The two shipped 28.5 million and 27.4 million units respectively in Q3 2022.

As we head toward the end of the year, smartphone shipments should pick up because of the Christmas season. It would be interesting to see which smartphone brand would move from its place on the top 5 list.
