The iPhone 14 Pro was crowned the best smartphone in the 2023 Global Mobile (GloMo) awards at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, Spain.
The GloMo Awards cover several categories, including Mobile Tech, Digital Everything, Device, Tech4Good, Government Leadership, and Outstanding Achievement. Under the Device category, the iPhone 14 Pro took the award for Best Smartphone, beating the Google Pixel 7 Pro, the Nothing Phone (1), the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, and the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in the shortlist of devices.
According to GloMo’s page, the Best Smartphone was chosen by a panel of independent analysts, journalists, and influencers. The criteria is a combination of outstanding performance, innovation, and leadership of the smartphone on the market during the period January 2022 to December 2022.
Apart from the Best Smartphone, Apple also took home the award for Disruptive Device Innovation for its Emergency SOS via Satellite feature found on its latest devices. The feature lets users connect to emergency services in areas where there is no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
The award focuses on core hardware and software innovation within smartphone devices, including chips and processors, cameras, screens, and other innovative technologies that advance the user experience and enhance smartphone capabilities.

Apple’s Emergency SOS via Satellite beat out Google’s Tensor 2 chip, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, and Sony’s IMX989 Camera Sensor.
