Design & Build

The ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404) is a beautiful laptop built for versatility and durability. It has a sleek and modern design and features an ultra-lightweight and ultra-thin aluminum chassis that weighs only 1.5 kg (around 3.3 lbs.), and measures just 15.9 mm (0.6 inches) thick.

In terms of aesthetics, the ZenBook 14 Flip OLED is as premium and elegant as it gets, thanks to the smooth metal finish on the lid and a matte black chassis. It also incorporates ASUS’ new logo design, which adds a subtle but stylish element.

One of the most impressive features of the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is its sturdy hinge, which allows the display to be rotated 360 degrees. It has been tested with over 20,000 open/close cycles to ensure it lasts. Moreover, the laptop itself meets the U.S. military-grade MIL-STD-810H standards, meaning it can withstand drops, shocks, and extreme temperatures.

The hinge lets you switch between four modes — laptop, tablet, stand, and tent — depending on your needs. I found the hinge well-built and doesn’t give or wobble when using the touchscreen. As for the military-grade durability, I have not personally tested its effectiveness (I don’t have the strength of character to do), but knowing this gives me peace of mind that it can withstand the rigors of a daily driver.

The keyboard and touchpad are responsive and accurate, offering a smooth user experience. The full-size backlit keyboard has a 1.4 mm key travel, which is springy and easy to type on. While the large ErgoSense touchpad is smooth and offers plenty of space for navigation. Our review unit, however, did not come with the backlit number keypad found on other Zenbook models. Honestly, I never used it on my previous daily, the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED. I probably wouldn’t use it here either if it were there.

Another notable feature of the Zenbook 14 Flip OLED is its FHD 3DNR IR camera that supports Windows Hello facial recognition. It allows for a secure and quick login, which works fine.

Additionally, the laptop has an array microphone and offers noise cancellation for clearer audio.

ASUS Lumina OLED Display

The ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED UP3404 boasts a stunning 14-inch ASUS Lumina OLED display with a resolution of 2880×1800 pixels. It is bright, colorful, and has excellent viewing angles. The screen is great for productivity tasks and entertainment like watching movies, editing photos, or working on documents and other projects.

ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED (UP3404) Display

This ASUS Lumina OLED display has a high contrast ratio, producing deep blacks with vibrant and accurate colors. It is complemented by several advanced technologies that make it one of the best on the market:

  • It has a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, which is good news for color-sensitive content creators.
  • It is TÜV Rheinland Eye Care certified for low blue light emissions, which makes it safe to use for extended periods without straining your eyes.
  • The display is Pantone Validated, ensuring it can accurately reproduce Pantone colors.
  • Additionally, it supports VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black, a high dynamic range (HDR) standard that provides deep blacks and bright whites, making it ideal for watching movies or playing games with HDR content.

The ZenBook 14 Flip OLED also has a thin-bezel design with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It makes for a more immersive viewing experience that maximizes the screen space while keeping the laptop at a reasonably compact size. However, the glossy surface can cause some glare. It also has up to 550-nits peak brightness.

The display also supports ASUS Pen 2.0, an active stylus that can detect 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity which samples incredibly fast at 266Hz, and has less than 36 ms of latency. It also has 4 interchangeable pen tips to suit different scenarios or user preferences, and the weight and feel of a natural pen.

The stylus has a hidden USB-C charging port. It can charge up to 100 percent in 30 minutes with over 140 hours of use. It also has a one-click launch via Bluetooth, allowing users to quickly capture a screenshot, or jump to the next page of a presentation.

I/O Ports

The ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED UP3404 has a good selection of I/O ports. It has one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port on the left side. While on the right, there are two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and an audio combo jack.

This gives you plenty of options for connecting peripherals and external displays. The Thunderbolt 4 ports mean they can be used to connect high-speed external devices, such as external hard drives and displays.

In practice, however, the charger takes up one of the USB-C ports, leaving you with just one other USB-C port when plugged in. The USB-A port is a good addition for compact devices, providing an option for a wireless charger or a thumb drive.

Performance

The ASUS Zenbook 14 Flip OLED UP3404 delivers excellent performance for everyday tasks and demanding applications. Our review unit is powered by a 13th gen Intel Core i7-1360P processor, which features the Intel Evo standard, promising the latest CPU with faster performance, an ultra-thin and ultra-light body, and the latest intelligent features for today’s digital nomad.

In addition to the powerful processor, the laptop comes with Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD. It runs on the Windows 11 Home operating system, pre-installed with Microsoft Office Home and Student edition and some ASUS apps and utilities.

The combination of the Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM provides a smooth and responsive performance for everyday tasks such as web browsing, document editing, and video streaming. It’s also a great productivity tool for a daily driver, able to handle many tasks, even more demanding ones such as photo editing without any problems.

Good thing the bundled 65W travel charger is relatively compact, so charging on the road is not difficult.
