HONOR unveiled its third-generation foldable phone, the Magic V2, in Beijing, China on Wednesday. The company claims that the Magic V2 is the slimmest and lightest book-style foldable phone to date, thanks to its innovative design and materials.
A super-light titanium hinge
One of the key features of the Magic V2 is its super-light titanium hinge, which is 150% stronger and 42% lighter than steel and aluminum hinges. The titanium hinge also allows the Magic V2 to be thinner than its predecessor, the Magic Vs, by around 25%. The Magic V2 measures just 9.9mm thick when folded and 4.7mm thick when unfolded, making it the thinnest foldable phone on the market.
A dual-screen display with stylus support
The Magic V2 boasts a 7.92-inch OLED LTPO internal display with a resolution of 2272×1984 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. The internal display also supports stylus input for productivity and creativity.
On the outside, there is a 6.43-inch OLED LTPO display with a resolution of 2560×1080 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. Both screens feature Dynamic Dimming technology to reduce eye strain and fatigue, as well as Circadian Night Display function to adjust the color temperature according to the time of day.
A triple camera setup with a 50MP main lens
On the rear of the Magic V2, there is a triple camera setup consisting of a 50MP main lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 20MP telephoto lens. The main lens has an aperture of f/1.9 and supports phase detection autofocus (PDAF). The ultra-wide lens has an aperture of f/2.0 and a field of view of 122 degrees. The telephoto lens has an aperture of f/2.4 and offers 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization (OIS).
The camera system also features HDR, panorama, and 4K video recording at 30 or 60 frames per second (fps) with 10-bit color depth and HDR10+ support.
On both the internal and external screens, there is a 16MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and HDR and gyro-EIS features.
A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with up to 16GB RAM
The Magic V2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is based on a 4nm process and has an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 740 GPU. The chipset supports dual-mode 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E/7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, infrared port, USB Type-C 3.1, OTG, and Display Port 1.2.
The Magic V2 also comes with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage (the Ultimate model), without any option for external memory expansion.
A silicon-carbon battery with fast charging
One of the most innovative aspects of the Magic V2 is its silicon-carbon battery, which is developed by Honor in-house and promises to deliver more power and efficiency than conventional graphite-based batteries.
The silicon-carbon battery has a dual-cell design with a total capacity of 5000mAh and operates at a lower voltage of under 3.4V. According to Honor, this allows the battery to store over 3.4 times more energy than graphite-based systems. The battery also supports fast charging technologies such as 66W wired charging and 5W reverse wired charging.
A MagicOS 7.2 software based on Android 13
The Magic V2 runs on MagicOS 7.2 software, which is based on Android 13 operating system. The software offers various features such as multi-window mode, split-screen mode, app cloning, smart sidebar, gesture navigation, dark mode, privacy protection, face unlock, fingerprint unlock (side-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity sensor, compass sensor, etc.
Price
The Magic V2 is available in four color options: Silk Black, Silk Purple, Black, and Gold. The phone also comes in three variants:
- 16GB+256GB for CNY 8,999 (PHP 69,500 or USD 1,300)
- 16GB+512GB for CNY 9,999 (PHP 76,100 or USD 1,400)
- 16GB+1TB for CNY 11,999 (PHP 91,300 or USD 1,670)
There is no word yet on the global availability and pricing.
