MMDA unveils P300-million Communications and Command Center

The MMDA CCC aims to make Metro Manila safer and smarter.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has taken a major step towards making Metro Manila a safe and smart metropolis with the inauguration of its new Communications and Command Center (CCC). The CCC is located in the MMDA’s new BERDE-accredited head office in Pasig City.

The CCC will serve as the “nerve center” of Metro Manila’s major thoroughfares, housing state-of-the-art facilities such as an operations center, data center, situation room, viewing room, media room, and power room. It will also feature new technologies such as high-definition CCTV cameras, an intelligent traffic signalization system, and a Hytera radio smart dispatch system with built-in GPS.

“This is a major step for MMDA to make Metro Manila a safe and smart metropolis by using smart technologies and data analytics to aid the country into its economic development and strengthened security,” said MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes during the inauguration ceremony.

The CCC will monitor 403 high-tech CCTV cameras installed across critical infrastructure projects in the metro, as well as adaptive and sensor-based traffic lights linked through the MMDA’s fiber optic network. The agency is also installing 638 CCTV cameras along major thoroughfares in NCR and 166 more CCTVs with data analytics connected along EDSA Bus Carousel.

Among the MMDA’s future plans are the installation of a 45-kilometer fiber optic cable to integrate NCR LGUs’ CCTVs and the procurement of an artificial intelligence program with vehicle classification, car counter, license plate, and facial recognition. The license plate recognition feature will be used for traffic enforcement and management while facial recognition and behavioral analytics will be used for crime prevention and resolution.

“With these technologies and facilities pooled into our command center, kumpiyansa po akong mas inclusive at tiyak na mas maaasahan ang ating bagong MMDA CCC (we are confident that our new MMDA CCC will be more inclusive and reliable),” Artes concluded.
