Mortal Kombat 1 adds Homelander, Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and more to its roster

Superheroes and supervillains join the fight in the first Kombat Pack DLC.

The latest installment of the popular Mortal Kombat fighting game series, Mortal Kombat 1, is getting some superpowered guest characters from TV and comics. NetherRealm Studios is bringing Homelander from The Boys, Peacemaker from Peacemaker, and Omni-Man from Invincible will join the game as part of the first Kombat Pack DLC.

A teaser trailer from the Mortal Kombat YouTube channel showed the three new fighters in action, along with some returning Mortal Kombat characters: Quan Chi, Takeda, and Ermac.

Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni-Man are the latest in a long line of pop culture icons that have appeared in Mortal Kombat games over the years. Previous guest characters include the Terminator, RoboCop, Rambo, Predator, and more. Homelander, played by Antony Starr on the Prime Video series, is the leader of the corrupt superhero team The Seven and has super strength, flight, heat vision, and a twisted sense of morality. Peacemaker, played by John Cena on the HBO Max series, is a violent vigilante who believes in achieving peace at any cost. Omni-Man, voiced by J.K. Simmons on the Amazon Prime Video series, is a powerful alien hero who turns out to be a ruthless conqueror.

According to Warner Bros. Discovery, Homelander will not be available as a playable character until spring 2024. Peacemaker and Omni-Man will be released in fall 2023 along with Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda. Meanwhile, Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka will be part of the base game when it launches on September 19 on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Mortal Kombat 1 is the 12th main entry in the franchise and is described as both a sequel to 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 and a reboot of sorts. The game features a new story mode that explores the origins of some of the iconic characters and introduces new ones. The game also boasts improved graphics, gameplay mechanics, customization options, and online features.

Mortal Kombat 1 is now available for pre-order. It comes with access to an exclusive beta test in August. Those who opt for the premium edition will get the first Kombat Pack DLC as well as four additional skin packs.
