Acer has once again been heralded as one of the World’s Top Companies for Women, according to the latest Forbes rankings.
This 2023 recognition marks the second year in a row that the company has made the prestigious list, climbing from 291 to 259 and securing the 12th spot in the Semiconductors, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Technology Hardware & Equipment categories.
The Forbes list, compiled in partnership with Statista, surveyed 70,000 women across 37 territories. The evaluation criteria encompass workplace practices, gender pay equity, handling of discrimination, and equal opportunities. This accolade is a testament to Acer’s commitment to creating an inclusive work environment where diversity is not just welcomed but celebrated.
In the Philippines, the Acer narrative is personified by Sue Ong-Lim, the managing director who leads a workforce of 139 employees. Ong-Lim’s journey with Acer began in 2009 as a Sales Manager, culminating in her appointment as Managing Director in 2023. Her leadership style is described as business-driven, yet deeply personal in her relations with Acer’s employees, partners, and customers.
Under her stewardship, Acer boasts a 34.7% and 39% market share of consumer and gaming notebooks in the Philippines, respectively. “More than a third of Filipino consumers who have a laptop own an Acer,” Ong-Lim stated. She credits the company’s decades-long commitment to brand equity, bolstered by consistent sales, marketing, and customer service efforts, as the edge over competitors.
Ong-Lim attributes her success to a vision that embraces continuous learning. She believes that even those at the pinnacle of their careers should maintain a learner’s mindset. Her gender, she asserts, has never impeded an industry traditionally dominated by men. “I believe in equality and inclusivity, and that people, regardless of gender, are what make an organization special and successful,” Ong-Lim affirmed.
