After a successful run on Disney+ in June, the highly anticipated anime film The First Slam Dunk will be heading to Netflix screens starting August 25, 2024.

“The First Slam Dunk” dominated the Japanese box office in 2023, scoring an impressive 100% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, 8.1/10 on IMDB, and 8.76/10 on MyAnimeList.net.

The movie is written and directed by Takehiko Inoue himself, the creator of the popular basketball manga where the film is based.

The addition of “The First Slam Dunk” strengthens Netflix’s already impressive anime library, joining acclaimed titles like “Suzume” and Studio Ghibli films on the streaming platform.

The anime movie has been a critical and commercial success, particularly in Asia. The film boasts numerous awards, including the prestigious Japan Academy Prize for Anime.

The anime follows the members of the Shohoku High School Basketball Team, which include Hanamichi Sakuragi (voiced by Subaru Kimura) and ace Kaede Rukawa (Shinichiro Kamio), along with Akagi Takenori (Kenta Miyake), Hisashi Mitsui (Jun Kasama), and Ryota Miyagi (Shugo Nakamura), with a modernized 3D version of the original anime style.

So mark your calendars. “The First Slam Dunk” will be streaming on Netflix in 75 countries beginning August 25.
