Offline Google Maps is coming to WearOS devices

Google Maps is finally receiving a long-awaited feature: offline support. Announced alongside the Pixel Watch 3, this update allows you to navigate even without an internet connection.

Announced alongside the Pixel Watch 3, the update brings offline Google Maps to existing Wear OS devices. The app will automatically download offline maps of the user’s current location to the watch.

Google emphasizes that offline maps automatically sync when on Wi-Fi and the device is charging, ensuring the latest data is available while conserving battery.

This update coincides with the new “Search & Go” Tile, providing shortcuts for Home and Work locations along with microphone access for voice commands. Users can also tap “Map” to directly access the map view for quicker navigation.

While the rollout appears to be starting with version 11.140.0701.W on the Pixel Watch 2. A wider release for other Wear OS devices is expected soon.
