Apple has unveiled the new iPad Mini, featuring a faster CPU and GPU, a faster Neural Engine, and support for Apple Intelligence.
The iPad Mini has an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with 2266×1488 resolution, True Tone, and a peak brightness of 500 nits. It is fully laminated and features an anti-reflective coating for reduced glare.
Under the hood, the tablet is powered by an A17 Pro, which comes with a 6-core CPU that offers a 30% boost in performance compared to the iPad Mini 6th gen. It also has a 5-core GPU with powerful features such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing, delivering a 25% jump in graphics performance over the previous generation. Meanwhile, the 16‑core Neural Engine is up to 2x faster than the previous generation.
At the back, the tablet has a 12MP camera that supports Smart HDR 4 and uses machine learning to detect and scan documents from the Camera app. While in front, it has a 12MP camera with Center Stage, which automatically pans and zooms to keep users centered in the frame during video calls.
Moreover, the new iPad Mini is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro, which can sense a user’s squeeze to bring up a tool palette for quickly switching tools, line weights, and colors. A custom haptic engine provides tactile feedback when users squeeze, double-tap, or snap to a Smart Shape.
The new tablet promises all-day battery life and runs on iPadOS 18. It also supports 5G connectivity for the cellular model, Wi-Fi 6E, and Face ID. The first set of Apple Intelligence features will be available this month through a free software update.
