GCash now works on Android phones in “developer mode”

Great news for developers and those who frequently tinker with their Android settings. GCash has apparently lifted the restriction that previously prevented its app from running on devices with “Developer Mode” enabled.

A Reddit user recently discovered this change, and further testing has confirmed that GCash now works fine even with Developer Mode activated. It’s unclear when this change was made or if it was a deliberate decision by GCash.

On GCash’s Help Center, the article about the “app not permitting login if Developer Mode is enabled” is still up. Additionally, you won’t be able to log in to GCash if settings like allowing installs from “Unknown Sources” or if you’re using a jailbroken or rooted smartphone.

In the past, GCash blocked access to its app on devices in Developer Mode as a security measure. This was done alongside measures that blocked access on jailbroken and rooted devices.

Developer Mode gives users access to advanced settings and features used for testing and development. While generally safe, some options, like USB debugging, can increase security risks if not used carefully.

We’ll continue to monitor this story for any changes. Stay tuned for updates.
