The Department of Transportation has launched cashless fares on LRT-2. Commuters can now pay using Visa and Mastercard cards, NFC-enabled phones, wearables, and GCash QR codes. The rollout covers all 13 stations and aims to make commuting faster and more convenient for over 160,000 daily riders.
The system allows passengers to go straight to designated Fast Lanes without buying or reloading tickets. It also addresses past shortages of stored-value cards and provides real-time travel data to improve transport planning.
Visa and Mastercard’s tap-to-pay systems work alongside GCash QR, giving commuters multiple ways to pay with devices and cards they already carry.
Visa estimates ridership could rise by 10 percent with the new system. Mastercard’s integration is part of its global effort to expand cashless transit payments, while Visa joins its network of over 870 tap-to-ride projects worldwide. RCBC is also offering a Piso Fare Cashback Promo for SSS cardholders until July 31, 2026.
