LRT-2 commuters can now tap Mastercard for fares

Commuters on Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) can now pay fares with a simple tap of their Mastercard credit, debit, or prepaid card, or a mobile wallet linked to Mastercard.

Passengers can head straight to Fast Lanes without buying or reloading tickets. The rollout adds more cashless options for LRT-2 riders, including NFC payments and GCash Commute QR, making station entry faster and easier.

This expansion is part of Mastercard’s push to grow cashless transit payments across Metro Manila, working with transit authorities, banks, and payment providers to modernize fare collection.

Visa’s parallel rollout on LRT-2 further strengthens the shift toward open-loop systems, where commuters can use the cards and devices they already carry.

The system is now live across all LRT-2 stations, giving over 160,000 daily riders a faster, safer, and more flexible way to pay.
