GCash and Maya remove gaming access after BSP directive; No mention of ‘gambling’ in advisories

The word “gambling” where omitted in their advisories.

GCash and Maya have removed access to gaming platforms in their apps, following a directive from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The move complies with BSP Memorandum No. M-2025-029, which ordered financial service providers to cut ties with online gambling platforms by August 16. Both e-wallets posted advisories confirming the change.

GCash said gaming access on GLife was suspended as of 8PM on August 16. Maya also removed access to gaming sites and apps in its Games feature. Both advisories used the word “gaming” and did not mention “gambling” at all.

After the deadline, users with remaining balances were told to contact the platform operators directly to withdraw their funds.

Last week, BSP ordered e-wallet apps to remove all links to online gambling platforms by August 16. This move aims to protect users from the risks of online betting, especially young people and families.

The directive was announced during a Senate hearing on online gambling. GCash and Maya are regulated by the BSP.
