GCash to discontinue Amex Virtual Pay Card by April 2026

GCash announced it will discontinue the Amex Virtual Pay Card on April 1, 2026. The service, which gave users a virtual American Express card for international online shopping, will no longer be available after that date.

Registration for new Amex cards will close on February 1, 2026. Existing cards will remain valid for payments until March 31, 2026. After this date, payments made with the Amex Virtual Pay will fail, even if the card is saved in merchant accounts.

GCash is advising users to update their payment methods before the cutoff. Options include the GCash Visa Card, which can be ordered through the app and delivered within 10 to 13 business days, or GCash Online Payments, which supports most international merchants. Refunds or chargebacks after March 31 will be credited directly to the user’s GCash wallet.

The Amex Virtual Pay Card was popular among Filipinos for enabling purchases from US-based online stores that did not accept local cards.
