HBO is working on a Baldur’s Gate series with The Last of Us co-showrunner Craig Mazin leading the project. According to Variety, the adaptation will build on the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, the 2023 role-playing game that earned critical acclaim and multiple Game of the Year awards.
The game is part of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, praised for its deep storytelling, complex characters, and freedom of choice, making it one of the most celebrated RPGs in recent years.
Mazin is a longtime Dungeon Master and has spent nearly 1,000 hours playing Baldur’s Gate 3. He has spoken about his passion for the game and his commitment to treating its world and characters with respect.
His background as both a storyteller and player positions him to deliver a faithful adaptation that hopefully feels authentic to fans while attracting newcomers.
