Android adds seamless sharing with iOS

Google is rolling out new Android updates that make it easier to share files between Android and iOS. This means Quick Share is now compatible with Apple’s AirDrop. This lets users send photos, videos, and files across platforms without needing extra apps.

The rollout starts with Pixel phones and will expand to Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and HONOR devices within the year.

For devices that don’t support direct transfers, Quick Share can generate a QR code to share via the cloud. Google also confirmed that Quick Share will be integrated into popular apps like WhatsApp soon, making cross‑platform sharing more convenient.

Switching from iOS to Android is also getting simpler. Users can wirelessly move passwords, photos, messages, apps, contacts, and even their homescreen layout. eSIM transfer is supported, starting with Samsung Galaxy and Pixel phones. This makes migration less of a hassle for those moving to Android.

Messaging security is part of the update, too. RCS messages now have end‑to‑end encryption across Android and iOS. With billions of RCS messages sent daily, this adds another layer of privacy and trust for users.
