The Department of Education (DepEd) reminded public schools that phones and gadgets are not allowed during class hours. The directive, under DepEd Order No. 6, series of 2026, is meant to keep classrooms focused and free from distractions.
Students are prohibited from using devices for social media, online games, vlogging, or content creation while lessons are ongoing. The rule applies nationwide and is part of DepEd’s push for discipline and responsible internet use.
DepEd clarified that gadgets may still be used for learning activities, such as accessing digital resources or joining online collaboration, and in emergencies like disasters or medical situations. Schools were also told to run information drives to guide students on the proper use of technology.
A memorandum was issued on June 30, directed to regional directors, division superintendents, and school heads, to strictly enforce the ban. DepEd also called for support from parents, local governments, law enforcement, and NGOs to help reinforce the policy and protect learners.
The reminder comes as concerns grow over excessive gadget use affecting student focus and discipline. DepEd said the ban is part of broader efforts to create a safe and motivating environment for learning.

The policy is already in effect, with schools expected to comply immediately. DepEd will monitor implementation and continue promoting responsible digital practices among students.
