Two basketball point guards from different leagues met at the vivo x NBA Meet & Greet held on July 30 at the vivo Concept Store, SM Megamall. PBA star Scottie Thompson joined Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. to talk about leadership, perseverance, and life on and off the court.
The meeting was personal for Thompson, who shared that he was named after Scottie Pippen, the six-time NBA champion and father of Pippen Jr. His father admired the Chicago Bulls legend, making the encounter a “full-circle moment.”
Pippen Jr. looked back on his journey to the NBA, starting at Vanderbilt University, then joining the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 as a two-way player before earning his spot with the Memphis Grizzlies. “The main thing for me is confidence,” he said. “You start at the bottom, but working hard every day and believing you belong really helped me.”
Thompson shared how years of hard work turned him from a college standout into a PBA MVP, champion, and one of the country’s top floor generals. “I just keep pushing myself every day. What I do in practice is what I bring onto the court,” he said.
Fans joined the conversation during an interactive Q&A, asking both players about basketball and life. When asked who influenced him most, Pippen Jr. credited his father for guiding him through the game. Thompson, meanwhile, gave fans a glimpse of his personal side, saying with a smile, “I’m a family man.”
