Samsung Galaxy Y Duos and Galaxy Y Pro Duos Dual-SIM Phones Launched

Banking on the popularity of its low-end Galaxy Y line of Android phones, Samsung is releasing two new dual-SIM Galaxy Y phones.

Samsung Galaxy Y Duos

The first one is the 11.98mm Samsung Galaxy Y Duos that has a 3.14-inch QVGA screen with 243 x 320 resolution.  This is slightly bigger than the 3-inch display of the current Galaxy Y but has the same resolution.   So just like the single SIM Galaxy Y, the Galaxy Y Duos will offer the same disappointing display.  Other features of the Galaxy Y Duos are an 832MHz processor, 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA capability and microSD storage that is expandable up to 32GB.   Since the processor is the same as the one on the Galaxy Y, performance wise, this new phone will also likely be sluggish.  Thankfully the camera is improved to 3 megapixels, so hopefully the photos will be better than those taken on the Galaxy Y.  Operating system is still Android 2.3 Gingerbread with TouchWiz overlay.

The phone features a polished metallic casing just like the Galaxy Y and features ChatON, Samsung’s cross-platform communication service.   It also has Social Hub, which supports email, social network integration and instant messaging.

Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos

The other new dual-SIM handset is the Galaxy Y Pro Duos with a smaller 2.6-inch LQVGA TFT screen, and of course a physical QWERTY keyboard.  The specs for the Galaxy Y Pro Duos will be essentially the same as the Galaxy Y Duos, except of course for the screen and the keyboard.

The Galaxy Y Duos and Galaxy Y Pro Duos both feature a dual-SIM, dual-standby system allows two separate phone numbers and a simultaneous use of data on the same device.

These new phones will be available starting January 2012.   The Galaxy Y Duos will be gradually rolled out to Europe, CIS, Latin America, Southeast and Southwest Asia, Middle East, Africa and China while the  Galaxy Y Pro Duos will be coming to Europe, CIS, Latin America, Southwest Asia, Middle East and Africa.

There is no word yet on pricing but if I would make a guess, it will be the same price as the current handsets, if not a little higher.

  1. I have the Duos; it retails for P8000-P9000 depending on where you go. So far it’s decent for my needs. I’ll have to see how it performs in the USA and elsewhere while I travel. Also, for some reason Zynga Words with Friends isn’t available for this phone and OS…
