THE REVIEW:
The Bose SoundLink Mini is a rectangular front facing speaker. It has a clean and simple design, with matte gray and silver colors giving it an elegant and professional look. The build quality is impressive. On hand, you know that you are holding a premium device.
The SoundLink Mini is a relatively small set of speakers, and measures at H 2 in. x W 7.1 in. x D 2.3 in. For the size, it feels a bit hefty at 1.5 lbs. But it can still be easily thrown in a bag to bring along with you.
Up top is where you will find the power button and a set of controls. Buttons include mute, volume up and down, Bluetooth on/off, and the aux on/off. There is also a lighted battery indicator, and LED indicator lights just above the buttons.
At the side, you will find the aux-in and a charging port. You can plug the AC adapter directly to the unit for portability, or you can use the charging cradle as an added convenience.
Pairing the SoundLink Mini to my phone was easy. Just turn on the speaker, press the Bluetooth button on the device and connect by going through the Bluetooth settings on my phone.
For a set of small speakers, the sound quality is great. I don’t know how else to describe its audio performance. I mean, it’s not as good as a large speaker (like the Bose Wave Music System III for example), but it’s still great. This one had me stumped as to how something this small sound surprisingly good. Sound is warm and creamy. You’ll feel (yes, feel) the music you’re listening to. The bass is deep and powerful that you’ll be confused as to where the heck it is coming from. Clarity is good, as is the dynamic range. And even at full volumes, there is little to no distortion. It can easily fill a small room with sound.
The SoundLink Mini is rated to last up to 7 hours of continuous listening. I guess they’re a little conservative on their estimate. I was able to use it for a bit more than that. I was playing music for most of the day on moderate volumes.
The Verdict:
I think Bose has a winner in their hands with the SoundLink Mini Bluetooth speaker. It’s small, compact, and stylish. It’s convenient and it’s easy to use. It’s a bit heavy for its relatively small size, but it makes up for it with great sound quality. It’s a bit expensive, but in my opinion it’s one of the best Bluetooth speakers you could get right now.
The Bose SoundLink Mini retails for P13,000, and it’s available exclusively through Bose retail stores in Metro Manila.
