Design

The first thing you’ll notice when  you look at the G40-70 is its matte silver lid and its size. At 15.11″ by 10.4″ by 0.98″ and 4.6 lbs., it is not the easiest travel companion. It’s not heavy, but you’ll start to feel the weight if you carry it around with you if you’re on the go.

The chassis is made from a textured plastic material with a matte finish. The texture seems to give it a better grip and gives it protection against fingerprints. The stereo speakers are found at the chassis, bottom front.

On the left side you will find the VGA port, LAN port, HDMI port, USB 2 and USB 3 ports. The right side has a USB 2 port, the DVD ROM, the card reader and the mic/headphone jack.

The 14 inch HD LED display offers great colors and sufficient brightness. It’s not full HD, but the glossy screen is good enough for 720p movies. The bezels are a bit big, but at this price point, you won’t find any small ones either. The screen, while great overall, begins to falter if you use it outside. As seen on the image, it’s pretty much suffers from a lot of glare.

Keyboard

The G40-70 uses Lenovo’s island-style AccuType keyboard. The full sized keyboard is spacious and very comfortable to use. The keys are firm and has decent travel. I would say that it feels good to use and accuracy seemed improved.

The track pad is good as well. It is a bit small, but otherwise very responsive. The buttons are soft and has a silent but tactile feel when you press it.

Performance

I wasn’t able to run any benchmarks, but performance is good. The Intel i5 processor and 4GB RAM does a great job at keeping Windows smooth and responsive. Programs open fast, and slowdowns and lags are rarely felt. High definition videos play with no problems.

Conclusion

The Lenovo G40-70 is a very able machine. The 14 inch laptop that can easily replace your desktop. It has a colorful and bright screen, and a comfortable and spacious keyboard. It has enough power for extensive programs like photo editing software, and could probably handle some of today’s games. The only downside is the weight.

The Lenovo G40-70 is available for PHP33,995 through select LES and authorized resellers nationwide.

  1. Thanks for the review. I have this laptop until now. I bought it in 2014 and still in good condition. I upgraded the 512GB HD to a 250 GB SSD because it’s quite slow especially when doing Magento stuff. Planning on upgrading the RAM also to 8GB or 16GB so that it can handle PhpStorm, Magento, and lots of Chrome tabs open.

Btw, the once that I bought had no OS installed – just DOS which is ok because I prefer installing Linux over Windoze.
