Kirin 970

All this is possible, courtesy of Huawei’s newest SoC, the Kirin 970. Set to debut alongside the Mate 10, the chip learns user behavior through information based on cloud data and computing, combined with device sensors that record real time, scenario-specific, and personalized data. It then uses the information to provide personalize services to fit the user’s needs.

Kirin 970 is Huawei’s first mobile AI computing platform featuring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU). Powered by an 8-core CPU and a new generation 12-core GPU, it is built using a 10nm process that packs 5.5 billion transistors into an area of only one cm². The processor’s new heterogeneous computing architecture promises up to 25x the performance with 50x greater efficiency. In a benchmark image recognition test, the Kirin 970 can recognize 2,000 images per minute, which was faster than other chips on the market.
