Reports of the iPhone 8 splitting open has surfaced recently, prompting Apple to begin investigation immediately.
Splitting Caused by Swelling Battery
Apple launched an investigation to look into reports of the iPhone 8 bursting open. According to one Apple spokeswoman, the company confirms that they are aware of the situation and has begun looking into the reports. The problem may have been caused by battery issues.
There have been three reports of the issue to date. The first complaint came from Taiwan. The customer reportedly saw her iPhone 8 Plus split open while charging. She was using the official Apple power adapter.

The second one was from Japan who claims that the iPhone 8 was delivered to them with the screen already lifting.
The most recent report is from Hong Kong. Three days after use, the iPhone reportedly split open a few minutes after charging. The user was also using Apple’s official charger.
Thankfully, the problem is not widespread. Hopefully we’ll see no more reports regarding battery issues.
