This is great news. The company can improve what they already have now. If you recall, Xiaomi already has a great camera on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. It currently sits at the 9th spot for the best smartphone cameras on DxOMark. The handset got an overall score of 97 points, with 101 on photo and 88 on video. In comparison, the iPhone X got 97 points overall score as well, with 101 on photo and 89 on video.

It remains to be seen how much a difference this can make on upcoming Xiaomi smartphones. But looking at what they have now and what’s in the pipeline (probably too late for the Mi 7), having a dedicated camera division can only take Xiaomi further.
