Huawei Y6 2018 and Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro
This is a straight up specs comparison between the Huawei Y6 2018 and the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro 2018. We’re going to check out hardware and software differences, relative to their similar price points.
The Huawei Y6 2018 is the Chinese company’s entry level offering, packed with a large display with an 18:9 ratio and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro comes with Samsung Experience OS, and the same Snapdragon 425 processor.
Display
The Huawei Y6 2018 features a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS display with an 18:9 ratio and a 1440 x 720 resolution. It is topped with a 2.5D curved glass that gives it a smooth slope towards the sides.
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro 2018 has a smaller 5-inch qHD Super AMOLED display with a 16:9 ratio and a 960 x 540 resolution. Because is AMOLED, it has punchier colors and blacker blacks.

Truth be told, its hard to beat AMOLEDs when it comes to color saturation, deep blacks, outdoor visibility. The Galaxy J2 Pro has that going for it. But the Y6 2018‘s display is no slouch either. Its larger with a bigger resolution.
Processor, RAM, Internal Storage
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 powers both devices. The processor balances power efficiency and performance. The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro comes with 1.5GB RAM, while the Huawei Y6 2018 comes with 2GB RAM, and may offer a bit more in terms of multitasking. But don’t expect much from both. Its just that the latter has a slight advantage.
Internal storage is the same for both at 16GB. Both are expandable through SD cards of up to 256GB.
Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro comes with an 8MP main camera and a 5MP selfie shooter. It benefits from Samsung’s experience in photography. The Huawei Y6 2018, on the other hand, has a 13MP main and 5MP front. The selfie cameras are about the same, but the latter benefits from the larger megapixels.
Take note though, that larger MPs doesn’t mean better image quality, especially if the photos are just going to be uploaded to Facebook. But at this level, extra MPs wouldn’t hurt.
Battery
The Huawei Y6 2018 has a larger 3,000 mAh battery, compared to the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro‘s 2,600 mAh. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the bigger one has an advantage.

Both come with the same Snapdragon 425 processor, but the Y6 2018 has a bigger display with more resolution. The Galaxy J2 Pro has a smaller AMOLED display with qHD resolution. Meaning the former’s processor might eat up more of the battery to power a bigger and denser screen. Also, AMOLEDs are generally more power efficient.
OS, Other Specs
The Huawei Y6 2018 runs on EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo. The Galaxy J2 Pro runs on Samsung Experience on top of Android Nougat.
In general, its better to pick the newer version of Android because of performance improvements and updated security, but here, the ‘skin’ comes into play. Samsung’s version of the OS looks better. It has gone through a lot of changes, and has matured over the years. EMUI is not bad, but it needs more time to grow.
One thing missing from both devices are fingerprint sensors. Huawei rectified it by providing face unlock for added security and quick access.
Price
Here’s where it gets tricky. The Huawei Y6 2018 comes in at PHP5,990, while the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro at a higher PHP7,490. It may look like the Y6 has the price advantage, but you have to consider the J2 Pro‘s main selling point — the Super AMOLED display. Samsung thinks its worth the premium.
Final Thoughts
Looking at the differences between the Huawei Y6 2018 and the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro 2018, one may be inclined to think that the former has the upper hand. It comes with a larger display, more RAM, a bigger battery, and higher MP main camera. But we can’t write off the latter just yet. It has a Super AMOLED display and Samsung Experience OS. Those two specs could be enough to make the fight fair. Maybe.
