Vivo launches the Vivo APEX 2019, its first 5G smartphone, in the Philippines. The phone has no physical buttons and ports.
The APEX 2019 is billed as the future of smartphone design and development which supports 5G network technology through a Qualcomm X50 5G modem. It features a Super Unibody design that eliminates the notch and all the ports and buttons.
Up front, you have a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with very narrow bezels and no front camera in sight. Since the phone has no speaker grills, the screen itself acts as a speaker using Vivo’s Body SoundCasting technology to emit vibrations and sound.
Interestingly, the phone has a Full Display fingerprint scanner that lets users unlock the phone from almost anywhere on the screen. Using Vivo’s Fingerprint Light technology, pixels around the touchpoint provides additional light when a user’s finger is close to the display, providing an additional light source to help obtain a clear fingerprint image.
The APEX 2019 does not have any physical buttons. Instead, it uses a capacitive pressure sensing virtual buttons on the side of the frame called Touch Sense. The handset also comes with a new magnetic connector called a MagPort that replaces the a USB port.
As for its internals, the phone has an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and a whopping 12GB RAM. It also has 256GB of storage and a 4100mAh battery with fast charging support.
Since this is a concept smartphone, it might not be available for retail. The APEX 2019 is a showcase of what’s possible in smartphone technology in the future.
