Here’s another surprise. Remember when Huawei said that HongMeng OS was not for smartphones? Well, it is now. That’s according to Global Times, who reports that a HongMeng OS powered smartphone is scheduled to launch on Q4 of 2019 alongside the Mate 30 series. The phone is for the medium and low-end market, with an expected price of around CNY 2,000 (which is roughly PHP 14,800 or around USD 290).

HongMeng OS was thrust into the spotlight when it was hinted to become an alternative to Google’s Android OS. The Chinese company clarified that it was originally not meant for smartphones, but rather for industrial and business uses and the Internet of Things (IoT), such as autonomous vehicles, remote medical services, and industrial controls.
