Huawei has just unveiled the Mate 40 series. And the “smallest” of the bunch is the Huawei Mate 40.
The Mate 40 is the entry level model of the flagship series with slightly less spectacular specs, but flaunting the same intriguing design aesthetic. Still, the phone looks mightily impressive.
For starters, it has a 6.5-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 2376 x 1080 resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. There’s a fingerprint sensor behind the screen.
At the back you have a triple Leica camera setup with 50MP main, a 16MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP telephoto. The main sensor is currently the largest among flagships, so expect great quality photos.
One of the differences between the vanilla Mate 40 and the Pros is the processor. The former is powered by a Kirin 9000E. Its a similar 5nm chip as its bigger siblings, but paired with a 22-core GPU instead of the the Pro models 24-core GPU. It also has 8GB RAM (versus the 12GB on the Pros).

Apart from the chipset, another differences is the battery. The Mate 40 has a smaller 4,200mAh capacity with no wireless charging. It also has a “slower” 40W wired charging.
And finally, for those not aware, the smartphone runs on EMUI 10.1 based on Android 10. It has no Google services, and instead has the App Gallery and the Petal Search Widget.
Price and Availability
As for the price, the Huawei Mate 40 costs EUR 899 (which is around ~Php 51,700 converted locally). Huawei has not yet mentioned when it will come out in the global market, let alone locally. At least we know Huawei is bringing the whole series to the Philippines.
