realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker review

The realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker is the latest gadget from the number one phone brand in the Philippines.

The wireless speaker features a 5W Dynamic Bass Boost Driver, a “cobblestone” like design, and a modest price tag of just Php 1,590. We have one for review, and in this article, we’re going to see why we think it’s such a good value for the price. Let’s dive in.

Price and Availability

The realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker is priced at Php 1,590. It is now available online on Shopee and Lazada.

Design

The Cobble Bluetooth Speaker’s design is pretty much a standard affair with a round form-factor with a metal screen and a plastic body coated with a soft touch rubber finish. The build is IPX5 water-resistant, which means it can survive splashes. Its convenient and portable thanks to its shape and size, and is lightweight at just 200g.

The speaker has an LED light, a mic, a multi-function button, and a power button on one side, a USB-C charging port with a rubber flap for protection on the other, and a strap you can clip on your bag or wrap around your wrist.

The speaker has four rubber feet to keep it from sliding off a surface. Each foot has a small rubber nub that lifts the device a few millimeters. The nub has a special function, which we’ll go into later.

Performance

As soon as you power up the Cobble Bluetooth Speaker, you’ll get a really good idea of what it’s all about. It will beep with a deep rumbling bass that will cause it to vibrate on your hand.

It connects to your phone via Bluetooth 5 with up to 10 meters of transmission distance. Pairing it is pretty straightforward. The speaker will be on pairing mode the first time you turn it on. If not, just press the multi-function button (the M button) for 3 seconds to go into pairing mode, and then just connect to it via your Bluetooth settings.

Controls are done via the multi-function button (M button) with a series of single and double taps.

Controls:

  • Single tap – Play/pause
  • Double tap – Next track
  • Triple tap – Previous track
  • Tap and hold – Turn device off

Out of the box, the Cobble Bluetooth Speaker sounds great. It’s loud and bassy without any perceived distortions. The device can easily fill a small room with music and has enough power for some outdoor listening.

And remember the small rubber nubs on its feet? It actually keeps the speaker stable and stops it from reverberating on a solid surface. It’s such a simple and ingenious solution that made the product so much better.

realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker and realme Link app
realme Link app

I recommend you connect it to the realme Link app (available on the Play Store and App Store) to get the most out of it.

On the realme Link app, you can choose between three equalizer settings (which are labeled “sound effects” for some reason). Bass Boost+ focuses on the bass, Dynamic (default) offers a more balanced sound, and Bright boosts the treble.

I just left it on Dynamic, as it sounds the best for me. It already has ample bass so adding more just drowns out the rest of the music, and too much treble may be best if you’re watching or listening to something with a lot of talking.

The speaker has a Game Mode, which realme says reduces latency to as low as 88ms. I noticed that it’s at the expense of a bit of audio quality, but not a deal-breaker by any means.

And it also has a Stereo Mode that lets you connect to another Cobble Bluetooth Speaker to form a stereo pair.

As for the battery life, it has a 1500mAh capacity which can last up to half a day of straight-up listening. Charging via USB-C takes more or less takes around two and a half hours.

Verdict

For Php 1,590, I can confidently say that the realme Cobble Bluetooth Speaker is a great little wireless speaker for the price. It definitely shoots beyond its price point, offering loud and bassy sound with long battery life and a solid build.
