End-of-Life: Xiaomi officially drops support for the following phones

Xiaomi has recently published a list of smartphones that it deemed end-of-life. These phones will no longer receive any updates, be it for security and MIUI interface updates, or most notably, Android updates.

Keep in mind that this doesn’t mean that the phones on the list will no longer be usable, it’s just that you will be stuck with whatever version of Android you are on.

The devices on the list are over 2 years old, which is the limit of manufacturers when it comes to software support. The latest devices added to Xiaomi’s End-of-Life list is the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and the Redmi GO.

Of course, this doesn’t mean it’s the end for these phones when it comes to new Android software. If you’re brave enough (or generally know your way around Android), you can install or flash a custom ROM on your device. It’s very risky (you can brick your phone), but you do get to breathe new life into it.

For the rest, it is generally recommended to just purchase a new device for your own security and the security of your data and privacy.
