Netflix brings spatial audio to streams

Netflix partners with Sennheiser to bring spatial audio to streams, allowing for a more immersive viewing experience.

Spatial audio provides a theater-like experience by simulating a surround sound setup using just stereo speakers. According to Netflix, it doesn’t need surround sound speakers or home theater equipment. It uses Sennheiser AMBEO technology to enhance stereo audio with an immersive surround sound experience.

The new audio feature is available on Apple devices, including the Apple TV, and on iPhones and iPads. It is also available on Android devices. Netflix advises changing your TV or other device settings to stereo audio, if available, for spatial audio to work.

Spatial audio is available on select videos across their catalog. There are no settings to toggle. It’s turned on by default on shows that support the audio format. To see which streams support it, just type “spatial audio” into the search bar.

You’ll also need to set streaming quality to “High” or “Auto.” Several current and past Netflix shows support spatial audio, including Stranger Things, The Witcher, Fear Street, Red Notice, The Adam Project, Resident Evil, and more.
