Manila traffic is 8th worst in the world, study says

Traffic in Manila is legendary and it deserves its reputation. This time around, what we all know has been confirmed as one study found that the city has one of the worst traffic congestion in the world.

According to a study by GoShorty, a UK based short term car insurance company, Manila has a 43 percent traffic congestion level and 98 hours wasted on traffic annually. That means Filipinos spend 4 days in traffic every year. Ouch.

The study also mentioned that traffic congestion levels in Manila has decreased 10 percent compared to 2021, reducing travel time by 6 minutes per day.

Meanwhile, the most traffic congestion in the world belongs to Istanbul, the most populated city in Turkey and Europe. The city has a traffic congestion level of 62 percent, with its residents 226 hours or 9 days and 10 hours in traffic per year.

The heavy traffic in Metro Manila is one of the reasons why work from home arrangements are a very attractive proposition for most. All that time spent in traffic could have been shifted to something more productive.
