SIM registration in the Philippines finally reaches 60% as July 25 deadline looms

There are now over 100.96 million registered SIM cards out of the total 168 million active SIM cards in the country.

The SIM Card Registration Law, which requires all mobile phone users in the Philippines to register their SIM cards with their respective telcos, has finally reached 60% compliance as of June 28, 2023.

The law, which took effect on December 27, 2022, aims to curb the proliferation of text scams and other mobile phone-aided criminal activities by establishing a national database of SIM card users.

According to the latest tally from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), as of June 28, 2023, there are now over 100.96 million registered SIM cards out of the total 168 million active SIM cards in the country.

The three major telcos — DITO Telecommunity, Globe Telecom, and Smart Communications — have been implementing various measures to facilitate an easy, safe, and rewarding SIM registration experience for their subscribers.

Smart has the most registered SIMs with 47,687,682 which makes up 71.02% of its total subscribers. Globe, on the other hand, has 46,250,172, or 53.32% of its total. Meanwhile, DITO has garnered 7,021,760, or 46.92% of its total subscriber base.

The remaining 40% of unregistered SIM card users are urged to comply with the law before the deadline on July 25, 2023. Failure to do so may result in the deactivation of their SIM cards.

The NTC assures the public that the personal information collected from SIM card users will be protected and secured in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
