Netflix’s live-action Yu Yu Hakushu series to debut on December 14

Fans of the iconic manga Yu Yu Hakusho are in for a treat as Netflix announces the premiere of its live-action adaptation on December 14. The series, which follows the adventures of a teenage delinquent who becomes a spirit detective after his death, is one of the most popular and influential manga of all time, created by the legendary Yoshihiro Togashi.

The live-action series promises to be faithful to the original manga, while also adding new elements and surprises for fans and viewers. Netflix employed a global one-team production strategy that spanned both Japan and the United States, the same approach used for the live-action adaptation of ‘ONE PIECE‘, another beloved manga by Eiichiro Oda.

To bring the epic story to life, Netflix also assembled an international dream team of experts in CG and VFX technologies, including Scanline VFX, a renowned studio that has worked on major Hollywood productions such as Avengers: Endgame, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The Witcher. Scanline VFX was responsible for creating realistic and stunning visuals for the characters and the action scenes, both in the human and the spirit world.

The production of Yu Yu Hakusho took five years to complete, with meticulous attention to detail and quality. The team made sure that every character’s emotions and personality were accurately portrayed in the adaptation, using state-of-the-art technology and a passion for staying true to the source material.

The upcoming live action series is based on the beloved manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi. The manga, which has sold over 50 million copies in Japan alone, follows the adventures of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who becomes a Spirit Detective after his death. The anime adaptation, known as Ghost Fighter in the Philippines, was a huge hit among Filipino fans in the 90s and is still fondly remembered today.

Yu Yu Hakusho will stream on Netflix starting December 14, 2023.
