Filipinos will soon have a chance to buy Starlink kits at SM malls nationwide.
Starlink is a satellite-based internet service owned by SpaceX, the company founded by tech billionaire Elon Musk. Starlink uses low earth orbit satellites to beam internet to the surface, offering fast and reliable connectivity even in remote areas.
Starting November 1, consumers can purchase Starlink kits at all SM malls for ₱29,000, which includes the Starlink dish, modem, power supply, cables, and mounting tripod. Data Lake, Inc., a firm backed by Henry Sy Jr., is the official distributor of Starlink in the Philippines and has signed a global retailer agreement with SM Supermalls.
Data Lake Chairman Henry Sy Jr. said the partnership with Starlink is meant to ensure rapid and universal internet access in the country. “Our collaboration with Starlink has showcased the vast potential of our joint endeavors. We’re now amplifying our commitment to ensuring rapid, reliable internet connectivity worldwide,” he said.
Starlink has been available in the Philippines since February 2023, when Data Lake became the first Starlink integrator in the country.
As a special introductory offer, Data Lake is offering a 10% discount for the first 1,000 kits sold at each SM mall location. Starlink kits are also available online at www.starlink.com.
Starlink currently has over 5,000 satellites in orbit, as of August 2023, and plans to launch more to cover the entire globe. It has over 1.5 million subscribers in over 60 countries, including the Philippines.
