Qualcomm unveils flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Qualcomm announced its latest premium mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The new chipset promises to bring generative AI to the next wave of flagship Android smartphones, enabling users to create and manipulate images, videos, and text with unprecedented speed and quality.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the first mobile platform designed with generative AI in mind, according to Qualcomm. It features a 4nm octa-core CPU with a single Cortex-X4 prime core clocked at 3.3GHz, a 25% faster and more efficient GPU, and an upgraded AI Engine with support for multi-modal generative AI models.

The platform also boasts the world’s fastest connectivity with support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G.

Qualcomm claims its flagship SoC can deliver “console-defying” gaming performance with support for 240Hz displays and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. The Adreno GPU that comes with it is also 25% faster, 25% more power efficient, and brings 40% better ray-tracing than the previous generation.

The platform also supports Unreal Engine 5.2, which enables realistic lighting and shadows in mobile games.

According to Qualcomm, flagship Android devices powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. Some of the global OEMs and smartphone brands that will adopt the new platform include ASUS, Honor, iQOO, MEIZU, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE.
