Netflix drops live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series trailer

Netflix just dropped the official trailer for its live-action adaptation of the classic anime and manga series Yu Yu Hakusho (also known as Ghost Fighter in the Philippines). The trailer gives fans a glimpse of the main characters, the action scenes, and the supernatural elements that made the original series a hit.

Yu Yu Hakusho follows the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who dies in a car accident while saving a child’s life. He is then given a second chance by the ruler of the spirit world, Koenma, who assigns him to become a Spirit Detective and investigate cases involving demons and other threats to the human world. Along the way, he is joined by his friends and allies, such as Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, Botan, and Genkai.

The live-action series stars Takeru Satoh as Yusuke, Ryunosuke Kamiki as Kuwabara, Masaki Okada as Kurama, Yuki Furukawa as Hiei, Kanna Hashimoto as Botan, and Fumiyo Kohinata as Genkai. It is directed by Shinsuke Sato, who is known for his previous live-action adaptations of anime and manga such as Bleach, Gantz, and Kingdom.

The live-action Yu Yu Hakusho series will debut on Netflix on December 14, 2023, and will be available for streaming worldwide.

Yu Yu Hakusho is based on the manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi, which ran from 1990 to 1994 in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The manga sold over 50 million copies in Japan alone.

An anime adaptation in the Philippines, dubbed and renamed Ghost Fighter, was a huge hit among Filipino fans in the 90s and is still fondly remembered today. The anime and manga have been widely popular and influential and have spawned several video games, movies, and merchandise.
