Netflix to launch new anime adaptation of ONE PIECE

It finally happened. An anime that ran so long that it will have a new anime adaptation while it’s still ongoing!

Netflix announced on Sunday that it will stream a new anime adaptation of the popular manga ONE PIECE, starting from the East Blue saga.

The announcement was made during the second day of Jump Festa 2024, an annual event celebrating manga and anime.

The new anime series, titled THE ONE PIECE, will be produced by WIT Studio, the acclaimed studio behind hit anime such as SPY x FAMILY and Attack on Titan (Season 1-3). The series is currently in production and will be available exclusively on Netflix worldwide.

THE ONE PIECE production committee, composed of representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, and Toei Animation Co., issued a joint statement expressing their excitement for this project. They said that THE ONE PIECE will be different from the long-running TV anime series that has been airing since 1999, and will offer a fresh yet faithful adaptation of the original manga by Eiichiro Oda.

ONE PIECE is one of the best-selling manga of all time. In August 2022, it had over 516.6 million copies in circulation in 61 countries and regions worldwide. It has spawned a media franchise that includes anime, movies, games, merchandise, and more; and has received critical acclaim and numerous awards for its story, art, and characters.

Meanwhile, Netflix has been expanding its anime library in recent years, acquiring the rights to stream and produce original anime content.

The release date or the cast of THE ONE PIECE is yet to be announced, but expect more details to be revealed in the coming months. Stay tuned.
