Blackmagic Camera app arrives on Android (but not for all phones)

Compatibility is currently limited.

Android users rejoice! The highly anticipated Blackmagic Camera app from Blackmagic Design is finally here. However, there’s a catch.

Previously available only on iPhones, the Blackmagic Camera app boasts professional-grade features that transform your smartphone into a filmmaker’s tool. It offers meticulous control over camera settings normally reserved for high-end cinema cameras.

While the app itself remains free on Android, compatibility is currently limited. The app can only be installed on devices running Android 13 or later, specifically the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S24 series, and Google Pixel 7 and 8 phones.

This exclusivity is likely due to ongoing optimization efforts to ensure smooth performance on these specific chipsets.

Blackmagic Design has not yet announced plans to expand compatibility to other Android devices. However, with the initial launch a success, a wider rollout in the future seems probable.

If you have one of the supported phones and are interested in giving the Blackmagic Camera app a try, you can download it here.
