PLDT has joined forces with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to safeguard your internet connection. This collaboration aims to minimize service interruptions caused by accidental damage to fiber optic cables during digging and excavation activities.
These accidental fiber cuts due to construction works are a major source of service disruptions for PLDT subscribers.
The collaboration involves crafting stricter protocols. “We look forward to working hand-in-hand with MMDA and the government in crafting protocols for prior coordination and alignment before excavation permits are issued and diggings are done to ensure that service interruptions due to accidental damage to telco cables are avoided,” said Atty Joan A. De Venecia-Fabul, PLDT First Vice President, Deputy Chief Legal Counsel, and Head of Regulatory and Strategic Affairs.
This proactive approach should significantly reduce accidental damage to PLDT’s infrastructure.
The company, along with its mobile arm Smart Communications, has also been working with government agencies to streamline the permitting process for faster telco infrastructure rollout nationwide.
These efforts contribute to the Group’s goal of narrowing the digital divide in the Philippines.
