Huawei is developing an AI chip to challenge Nvidia

OPPO Reno12 F 5G Coming Soon

Huawei is reportedly gearing up to challenge Nvidia in China with a new AI chip called Ascend 910C. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the Ascend 910C is claimed to be on par with Nvidia’s high-performance H100 chip, specifically designed for demanding AI workloads.

The chip is currently being testing by major Chinese internet and telecommunications companies. The new Ascend 910C comes amidst US sanctions that restrict Nvidia from directly selling its most powerful chips to Chinese companies. However, Nvidia has developed alternative, lower-powered options for the Chinese market, such as the HGX H20.

According to the report, ByteDance, Baidu, and China Mobile are interested in Huawei’s Ascend 910C, which could translate into substantial sales, with projections exceeding 70,000 chips potentially reaching a total value of USD 2 billion.

While the chip’s official release date remains unconfirmed, it’s expected to hit the market by October 2024. As the race for AI dominance intensifies, all eyes are on Huawei’s Ascend 910C and its potential to disrupt the AI chip market.
