HMD has unveiled a Barbie-themed flip phone. While it may have missed the Barbie movie frenzy, the device’s all-pink design and feature phone capabilities offer a throwback to simpler times.
Embracing the basics, the Barbie Phone has a 2.8-inch display and a keypad for T9 text typing. It packs a 5MP camera with a built-in flash that, according to HMD, churns out “Y2K style” photos taken by “classic phones and vintage cameras.”
Inside is a Unisoc T107 processor with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of storage, expandable via a microSD card slot that takes up to 32GB. It also charges via USB-C with a pink charging cable.
The phone runs on KaiOS with Barbie icons, wallpapers, and ringtones. It has 4G connectivity, Wi-Fi, and GPS, and access to some apps like Facebook, Google Maps, and YouTube.
Aside from the unit itself, the device includes several Barbie-themed accessories, including extra back covers, a beaded lanyard, and some stickers and gems for old-school customization. Even the Snake game was given a Malibu beach theme.
The HMD Barbie Phone is priced at USD 129 (around Php 7,300) and is available in most regions. There’s no announcement of a local launch yet, but HMD hints at availability in the Philippines on its Facebook page.
